SHAH ALAM, Feb 28 — Three additional sports events — esports, chess and silambam — have been suggested for Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) Selangor 2026.
Executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Najwan Halimi said the suggestion has been approved by all the officials at the Selangor Sports Council and that the final decision will be announced in August.
“During the meeting chaired by the sports minister (Hannah Yeoh) yesterday (on Wednesday), we voiced the suggestion made by Sukma Selangor. We called for an agreement among all those involved to allow us to add on the three events. As per the rules of Sukma, any plan to add on an event must be announced a year early, and so we will be making a formal announcement in August,” said Najwan.
“During the meeting, the original 28 sports events were given the green light to go. It’s just the additional ones that haven’t been finalised. Our sports council’s officials will keep discussing the matter during our meetings.
“Selangor is very keen to add on these three sports. They bring great prospects for our athletes,” Najwan added during a press conference after the Selangor Havoc Raya Fest 2025 event here, today.
At the tabling of the Selangor Budget 2025, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced a RM6 million allocation to Sukma Selangor for the athletes to prepare for the 22nd edition of the games.
The last time Selangor hosted the event was in 1998.
