SHAH ALAM, Feb 18 — As the state government ramps up efforts to shine as a premier tourist destination in conjunction with Visit Selangor Year 2025, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has highlighted the need to improve existing tourism infrastructure.

The Selangor Sultan also urged enhanced cleanliness and tourist-friendly hospitality, which play a crucial role in pushing the sector forward.

“The cleanliness of the state must be consistently prioritised, as it reflects the identity and values of the community.

“Visit Selangor Year 2025 is a strategic initiative aimed at promoting Selangor as a premier tourism destination. With a diverse range of attractions, Selangor offers stunning natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and a variety of tourism products that can be widely promoted and commercialised,” the Selangor Ruler told the state assembly during the opening of the First Meeting of the Third Term of the 15th Selangor State Legislative Assembly today.

In the Royal address, the Sultan welcomed the state government’s efforts to support the Orang Asli community with an allocation of RM500,000.

“I also welcome efforts to upgrade the Mah Meri Cultural Village in Carey Island, not only for visitors but also to recognise the Mah Meri people as one of the 18 Orang Asli communities residing in Peninsular Malaysia,” he said.

Meanwhile, in addressing food security in the state, His Royal Highness hailed the Jualan Ehsan Rahmah initiative, organised by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation, to ensure the lower-income group can access essential goods at affordable prices.

Running for the third year across 1,344 locations in Selangor, the sales programme has benefitted seven million people, with total subsidies amounting to RM12 million last year.
