PETALING JAYA, Feb 10 — The Petaling Jaya Care Economy Action Plan 2025-2030 is expected to be tabled to the state government and subsequently adopted by all local authorities in Selangor.

Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said they are committed to implementing the action plan more systematically and effectively through a workshop for the action plan.

“Care economy is no longer a secondary issue but a critical need that must be addressed.

“MBPJ (Petaling Jaya City Council) is committed to providing quality and safe care services for all residents in Petaling Jaya. With the implementation of the Care Economy Action Plan, we aim to create a more inclusive and sustainable city,” he said when delivering his speech during the Petaling Jaya Care Economy Action Plan 2025-2030 workshop at the MBPJ Banquet Hall today.

Later at a press conference, Zahri said the findings from the workshop, the first series of its kind, will be gathered via a series of discussions and engagements with non-governmental organisation, childcare centre operators, and other stakeholders.

“The findings will be submitted to the state executive councillor for further action, and possibly it can be implemented across all local councils in Selangor, with completion targeted by June,” he said.

Zahri added that the workshop was organised to identify challenges faced in establishing care centres, facilitate discussions, and provide support where possible.

In Petaling Jaya, there are 147 nurseries, 108 childcare centres, and 70 senior care homes in operations, but some remain unapproved.

He said the action plan’s measures include improving guidelines for care service approvals, attracting investment in the care sector, and enhancing workforce training and support.

“MBPJ will continue collaborating with relevant agencies to enhance compliance and expand access to quality care services,” Zahri said.

The main priorities in the action plan include creating a senior-friendly environment with comprehensive health and wellness programs, as well as improving childcare facilities and developing safe, inclusive playgrounds.
