KUALA KUBU BHARU, Feb 9 — The Selangor government is awaiting a full report on the shooting incident at a shopping mall in Setia Alam before updating security standard operating procedures (SOPs) for malls.
State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said while the incident is considered isolated, such crimes should not be taken lightly.
“We will wait for the full police report first. If necessary, we will tighten security SOPs in shopping malls across Selangor.
“We want to ensure the safety of all visitors. This may be an isolated case, but we are not taking it lightly,” he said after officiating the 2025 Joran Festival at Tasik Fraser Valley, here today.
Ng was responding to the shooting incident at a shopping mall in Setia Alam at 10:50pm last night, which left a cleaning staff member injured.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stated that the suspect, who is currently being pursued, is a local man in his 30s with a fair complexion and 11 prior records related to drugs and crime.
The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and Section 307 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, stated that security measures at shopping malls and other public hotspots nationwide have been tightened following the incident.
He added that auxiliary police officers and security personnel at the scene have been instructed to remain vigilant for any suspicious activities.
