SHAH ALAM, Feb 8 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj is firmly against the proposal to introduce guidelines for Muslims attending non-Muslim religious celebrations, particularly in Selangor.

As the head of Islam in Selangor, His Royal Highness believes that such a proposal comes at an inappropriate time, especially when the people are actively fostering goodwill among various races and religious communities to strengthen national unity.

"This controversy has, to some extent, caused unease among the public and may disrupt the harmony that has long been established," said the Selangor royal palace Istana Alam Shah in a statement today.

It added that the Ruler affirms that Islam, as guided by the Quran and Sunnah, has provided the best principles throughout the ages, further reinforced by the adherence of Malaysian Muslims to the teachings of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah.

"Therefore, concerns over the deviation of Muslims' faith due to such practices do not arise, as His Royal Highness believes that Muslims today understand the boundaries of their faith, are not easily influenced, and are capable of discerning right from wrong.

"His Royal Highness reminded that in a multicultural nation where citizens adhere to various religions and beliefs, religious tolerance should never be compromised. At the same time, every citizen must respect and acknowledge that Islam is the religion of the Federation, as enshrined in the Malaysian Constitution," said Istana Alam Shah.

Nonetheless, Sultan Sharafuddin advised Muslims, particularly in Selangor, to continuously strengthen their faith by deepening their religious knowledge, fulfilling the commandments of Allah SWT, and abstaining from His prohibitions.

"His Royal Highness further emphasised that when Muslims attain a firm and true faith, along with unwavering conviction in Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala, they will not be easily led astray or influenced by external elements," it said.
