Selangor Masters: Thai golfer Tawit soars to maiden ADT win

PETALING JAYA, Jan 25 — Thai golfer Tawit Polthai fired six birdies en route to a final round of two-under 69 to bag his maiden Asian Development Tour (ADT) title at the 2025 Selangor Masters here today.

The 30-year-old's 16-under 268 total at the Seri Selangor Club saw him finish three strokes ahead of Filipino Juvic Pagunsan (13-under 271) while another Thai, Poom Pattaropong (11-under 273) finished third.

Tawit, whose final-day score also included four bogeys, carded rounds of 70-64-65-69 to take home US$35,000 (about RM153,230).

He was ecstatic to have finally won the ADT tournament, with his previous best finish being a fourth-placing in the 2023 edition.

“I am very happy… it's a good start for the 2025 season. This is my first time winning the ADT in Malaysia. This course is difficult but I was focused on my game and enjoyed myself,” he said.

Meanwhile, youngster Muhammad Hariz Muhammad Hezri emerged as the best amateur and the best Malaysian finisher at the tournament after carding a four-day total of four-under 280 to share 11th spot with South Korea's Gwon Minwook.

The 20-year-old Malaysian was thrilled to bits with his performance, saying it was his best since he made his debut in the 2022 edition.

"I am extremely pleased with my performance in the tournament this time, having failed to make a mark previously.

"This time, I not only made the cut but also emerged as the best amateur and the best Malaysian finisher. I am so grateful,” said Hariz, who aspires to make the Malaysian team for the Thailand SEA Games in December.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari gave away the prizes to the winners.
