KAJANG, Jan 15 — The Section 1 public market in Bandar Baru Bangi is set to get a fresh look, with facility upgrades aimed at enhancing comfort for both traders and visitors, said Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan.

According to the Pakatan Harapan lawmaker, the upgrades, which began in November last year with a RM400,000 allocation from the Housing and Local Government Ministry, is expected to be completed next month.

The market, which has been in operation since the 1990s, is undergoing significant upgrades, including new tile installations, fresh paint, roof replacement, and resurfacing the surrounding area.

“The upgrading work is being carried out without disrupting the 26 traders here, allowing them to continue operating as usual,” he told the press during a site visit to the market today.

The market has become a focal point for local residents, especially those from Sections 1 to 4, due to the lack of similar facilities in other areas.

Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of the other traders, Section 1 Public Market Association secretary Roslina Hussin, 62, expressed gratitude to the government for approving the allocation for the upgrade.

“Traders have been eagerly awaiting the upgrade of this market. While it is not in bad condition, there are broken floors and puddles, which pose safety concerns.

“We hope that, moving forward, the food stalls in this area will also be upgraded,” she said.
