SHAH ALAM, Jan 6 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has made history as the first local authority in Malaysia to obtain a syariah compliance certification.
The certification, awarded by Salihin Shariah Advisory Sdn Bhd — a registered and qualified syariah advisor with the Securities Commission Malaysia — follows a comprehensive audit of MBSA’s financial statement for 2023.
MBSA corporate communications director Mohd Azhar Mohd Sharif said in a statement that the scope of the audit included evaluations of services, financial ratios, ethical considerations, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
He added that the certification is a testament to MBSA’s ongoing efforts to ensure that its income sources and expenditures align with syariah principles.
It also demonstrates MBSA’s commitment to incorporate syariah principles across various aspects of governance, including financial management, resource administration, and community services, he said.
“This recognition aims to bolster stakeholder confidence in MBSA's source of income and expenditure throughout 2023,” he said today.
