KOTA BHARU, Jan 2 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has presented a RM500,000 aid package to the Kelantan state government to help alleviate its burden on flood victims in the state.
He handed over the contribution to Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud at his official residence today.
Amirudin said the donation symbolises solidarity and a spirit of humanitarianism between the two states.
“This is our second round of assistance, as we previously provided aid in 2022. This is not unusual but rather a gesture of mutual understanding and a spirit of humanity that the Selangor government seeks to nurture.
“Moreover, we as state governments aim to cultivate a culture of mutual assistance. Hopefully, this contribution will aid the recovery process in Kelantan,” he told the press.
During Amirudin’s official visit to Kelantan, he was accompanied by Selangor State Secretary Dato’ Haris Kasim and the state councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi.
Meanwhile, Nassuruddin expressed gratitude and appreciation for Selangor’s continuous support for Kelantan.
“Such aid is not new among states. Previously, when any state faced a disaster, other states would certainly step in to provide assistance. A heartfelt thank you to the Selangor government.
“This aid will be directed to flood victims, particularly those severely affected in Pasir Mas and Tumpat. We will assess their needs and distribute the assistance accordingly.
“For the nine houses that were completely destroyed, the Federal government will rebuild them. However, the state government will need to provide alternative land as the previous sites are now water channels,” he said.
In December 2022, Amirudin announced that the Selangor government had extended RM1 million in assistance to Kelantan and Terengganu to support flood victims in both states.
