Govt policies, economic handling bear fruit, says Amirudin

SHAH ALAM, Dec 24 — The hard work of the federal government in managing the economy and developing long-term solutions is showing positive results, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said, in praise of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.

He highlighted the improved investments in the country and a more stable ringgit today as among the primary examples of the positive outcomes since Anwar took over the premiership.

Elaborating on the ringgit’s strong performance, Amirudin said Anwar and his team are working tirelessly to manage the nation’s economy and finances, contributing to the continued growth and stability of the currency.

“The government’s efforts to tackle poverty over the past year or two are also beginning to show positive results for the public,” he said during the Sembang Malam talk show organised by Media Selangor last night.

However, Amirudin acknowledged ongoing challenges, noting that politicians are currently being tested on their maturity in handling issues.

He explained that increasing criticism from the opposition bloc and others, with more critical and creative approaches towards the government, has led to growing public distrust.

“Whoever forms the government will inevitably be labeled as a failed government.

“…However, when the government addresses issues like civil servant salaries, as seen with the recent increase, it helps reduce some criticism. If the government can manage economic issues effectively, I believe the focus of discussions will shift moving forward.”

“The government will have more room to operate, unless a major scandal or issue arises. There is already a prevailing mindset that the government will be targeted by these attacks,” he said.

Anwar previously announced a salary increase under the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), which replaces the Malaysian Remuneration Scheme.

SSPA provides a salary adjustment that is expected to have a positive impact on the economic well-being of civil servants, while offering better career advancement opportunities in the civil service.

Income increases for all civil servants will range between 16.8 per cent and 42.7 per cent.

While acknowledging ongoing issues such as rising cost of living, Amirudin said the government’s response has been better than those of past administrations.

He said, unlike previously, the government of today is being cautious to avoid past mistakes.
