SHAH ALAM, Nov 28 — The state government plans to organise more knowledge-based and religious programmes next year to counter the growing negative influence of social media.
State executive councillor for Islamic affairs and innovation Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said RM500,000 has been allocated for programmes involving all levels of society, including elected representatives from the opposition.
“We will expand and deepen the discourse topics next year to reach every layer of society, starting with elected representatives, followed by imams and mosque officials in the villages.
“The funding, amounting to RM500,000 for the year, is already in place. We will structure the programmes, like continuing the Selangor mosque travel programme, which also includes community feasts,” he said.
Fahmi was speaking to the press during an Islamic legal awareness seminar at the Shah Alam Convention Centre today, which was also attended by Selangor Islamic Religious Department director Datuk Shahzihan Ahmad.
The inaugural seminar, organised by the Selangor Syariah Prosecution Department, was themed 'Islam in the Constitution and Challenges to Islam as the Religion of the Federation'.
Three scholars were invited as speakers: Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia's Institute of the Malay World and Civilisation's Centre for Malay World Manuscripts Research head Ros Mahwati Ahmad Zakaria, International Islamic University Malaysia senior lecturer Datuk Wan Ahmad Fauzi Hashim, and Universiti Islam Selangor's Faculty of Syariah and Law lecturer Azizah Mat Rashid.
