SHAH ALAM, Nov 27 — Challenges like constant rain and high river levels are hampering the progress of the Sungai Subang flood mitigation project.

However, state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim is confident it will be completed by next August.

“The project is facing significant challenges, including frequent heavy rain and high water levels during the monsoon transition period, which have hampered construction works such as the excavation and widening of the river.

“Illegal dumping has caused the excavation area to be covered with waste, which has to be removed and transported to an appropriate disposal site.

“Therefore, additional time and costs are required from contractors to complete this project,” he said at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

Izham said the Sungai Subang flood mitigation project, which began February 5, is slated for completion by August 4.

As of October, completion stood at 18 per cent.
