SHAH ALAM, Nov 22 — Selangor intends to to develop its own artificial intelligence (AI) and lead the nation in innovation of the technology, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He told the Selangor State Legislative Assembly that the administration is in talks with Nvidia, a renowned technology and semiconductor firm, to develop a sovereign AI.
“A sovereign AI means it belongs to a state or nation. We are holding meetings with Nvidia as we cannot depend on other countries’ AIs.
“If we depend on other countries’ AIs, they determine the data, identification and even our behaviour according to their own views,” he said at the wind-up for the 2025 Selangor State Budget here today.
Amirudin added that the state administration has allocated RM5 million to realise the AI initiative, starting with providing development training for human capital.
He said the AI white paper is Selangor’s plan to study the overall value of the technology.
“With the RM5 million, we will become a state ready to shape AI, including a Selangor AI made in Selangor, born from Selangor’s original intelligence,” he said.
The 2025 state budget includes an RM5 million allocation to realise an AI plan including the development of the AI Incubator Centre and the AI Trailblazers Initiative.
Amirudin also said the Selangor government will submit an AI white paper. detailing efforts to boost the efficiency of government services, at next year’s state assembly sitting.
