SHAH ALAM, Nov 22 — Selangor is open to feedback from all parties and is committed to reviewing eligibility requirements to ensure the continued enhancement and effective implementation of the Skim Air Darul Ehsan (Sade).
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said one of the proposals under consideration is raising the household income limit for the free water scheme from the current RM5,000.
“We are now in the third year of implementing Sade, but I am open to suggestions. Perhaps we can raise the income eligibility threshold.
“Currently, the limit is RM5,000. We will review it and may consider increasing it to RM7,000 or RM8,000, depending on the announcement we will make,” he said during the State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
He was responding to a question from Sijangkang assemblyman Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi about the performance and achievements of the programme under the Iltizam Selangor Penyayang (ISP) initiative.
Meanwhile, Amirudin revealed that 319,000 households in Selangor benefit from Sade each month, while 20,000 applications were rejected for failing to meet the eligibility criteria.
He explained that the state has opened registration to ensure the free water initiative is provided exclusively to households that genuinely meet the conditions.
“We want to ensure that free water is provided only to those who truly need it, not based on assumptions,” he said.
Previously, the state government estimated that 600,000 accounts would register for the 20-cubic-meter free water scheme.
Starting October 1, 2022, Selangor revised the eligibility criteria by raising the maximum household income limit from RM4,000 to RM5,000.
