SHAH ALAM, Oct 30 — State executive councillor for public health and the environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin has called upon members of the public to adopt a healthy lifestyle and strengthen their immunity to prevent health issues.
She said the 2023 National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) revealed that over half a million adults in Malaysia have four non-communicable diseases (NCD): diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity.
“From the data, 15.6 per cent suffer from diabetes, while 84 per cent of those aged 18 to 29 have diabetes.
“In addition, 29.2 per cent have high blood pressure, and obesity has also increased to 54.4 per cent compared to 50.1 per cent in 2021," Jamaliah said.
She was speaking at the officiation of the state-level tour of the Healthy Malaysia National Agenda (ANMS) at the KSL Esplanade Mall in Klang on Sunday (October 27).
To this, Jamaliah added that the public needs to adopt a consistently healthy lifestyle and strengthen their immunity to prevent diseases.
"They should also also eat healthy, avoid smoking, and nurture healthy minds,” she said.
