No compromise on corruption, state will cooperate in graft probes — MB

KLANG, Oct 26 — The state government is ready to cooperate with any party in the probe into its subsidiary Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI.

Emphasising that the state will not compromise on criminal breaches of trust or integrity violations, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari however said it is still too early to form a conclusion on the case.

“On the investigation into the state institution, we are very open and are giving the utmost space and cooperation (from the state government and its agencies) as it will ensure integrity continues to be upheld in institutions such as MBI.

“There could be an investigation anywhere. I do not want to jump to conclusions as it is still too early. A statement has not even been issued, what more allegations, convictions, and such. Please grant authorities the space to check and investigate.

“Do not rush to make statements implicating certain parties. Let the investigation be done to its fullest, and we will cooperate as we do not compromise on untrustworthy activities and actions …,” he said.

He was met after the officiation of the 4th Peninsular Malaysia Village Chief/Headman Association Retreat at Wyndham Acmar Hotel here yesterday, which was attended by 500 people.

Amirudin said the state government has tightened the standard operating procedure (SOP) at its subsidiaries to prevent integrity violations.

“Over the past few years, we have tightened several formulas and procedures, including in a few charters and SOP we have set, especially after 2019 and 2020.

It (the investigation) has been initiated before. There is no issue. We will do our best to deliver information to clear any doubt and explain if there are any queries.

“But if there are mistakes and missteps, maybe due to a procedural issue, we will correct the procedure, but if it involves criminal activity, it is for the relevant parties to act upon. That is outside the state’s scope of authority. What the state will implement are improvements and monitoring so the matter does not recur,” he said.

Previously, the media reported that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had found new leads on the probe into the state government’s subsidiary, MBI, over a sand mining concession graft case.

The MACC earlier reportedly raided an apartment alleged to have been used as a safehouse by an influential politician, and uncovered foreign banknotes worth around RM5 million.
