SHAH ALAM, Oct 24 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has allocated RM600,000 to implement the Petaling Jaya Neighbourhood Safety Squad Programme (PKKPJ) in 2025.
Its mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said that the initiative aims to ensure the city remains a safe and comfortable area for all under the Thematic Safe and Resilient City initiative.
“In 2024, an allocation of RM3,000 will be provided for each of the 138 PKKPJ applications involving 70 resident associations, 38 neighbourhood watches, 28 joint management bodies, and two community management councils.
“The implementation of the programme has had a very positive impact through increased resident engagement, the number of security patrols, and neighbourhood safety awareness,” he said at the MBPJ Special Council Meeting (Budget 2025) at the Annex Building of the MBPJ headquarters, here on Tuesday.
Zahri also said that RM700,000 has been allocated to upgrade the Damansara Jaya Town Centre through the Obstacle-Free City Programme.
“Several upgrade projects will be carried out in Section 14 and Section 8 next year.
“MBPJ is upgrading facilities for people with disabilities (OKU) in all eight town centres this year,” he said.
Meanwhile, Zahri said RM400,000 is also allocated to address hazardous trees in its jurisdiction.
He said effective and systematic management is needed to ensure trees are in the young, semi-mature, and mature stages.
“The management of hazardous trees will be carried out along protocol roads around the downtown area of Section 52 and residential areas in Section 14, Section 16, Section 17, and SS2.
Zahri also stated that MBPJ has received 98 reports of fallen trees involving 94 trees and 230 branches as of May 25.
