SHAH ALAM, Oct 21 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has issued a reminder to Selangor FC’s management and supporters to be more mindful of their behaviour to prevent misunderstandings that could potentially escalate into violence.
The Selangor Royal Office said this was conveyed by His Royal Highness in a special letter sent to the club management on October 10.
The message was delivered taking into consideration the intensifying competitive spirit of the Malaysia Super League. Selangor FC currently sit second on the table behind JDT FC.

“His Royal Highness has issued a royal message to Selangor FC’s management, fan clubs, and all club supporters, especially Ultras Selangor, who regularly attend matches at the stadium.
“In his letter, the Sultan reminded all parties to mind their behaviour to avoid any further misunderstandings and conflicts both on and off the field, which could lead to hostility and even violence.
“His Royal Highness wants every player and supporter to be wise and rational in controlling their emotions, to avoid being drawn into provocations that could have negative consequences and ultimately lead to destruction,” it said in a Facebook post today.
While not going into details, the post comes just two days after Selangor FC’s 1-1 away draw to PDRM FC, which was marred by controversy when a club official allegedly verbally abused journalists post-match for recording head coach Nidzam Jamil’s meeting with supporters.
The journalists reportedly could not leave the stadium due to fan provocations.
The official has since been reassigned and will not be involved in any on-field or stadium duties, while Selangor FC chief executive officer Johan Kamal Hamidon has also apologised for the incident.
Sultan Sharafuddin, who is Selangor FC’s patron, reminded that winning and losing are part of the competition, and that what truly matters is celebrating the successes of others and learning from every defeat.
“His Royal Highness wishes to see football continue as a sport that unites the people, devoid of any external influences that could undermine it,” said the Selangor Royal Office.
