MB: Budget 2025 to significantly impact Selangor’s growth

By Selangor Journal Team

SHAH ALAM, Oct 18 — Several measures announced in Budget 2025 would bring a significant impact to Selangor, especially in the economic, development, and infrastructure sectors, alongside the well-being of its people.

With the strong support laid out in the Federal budget, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari is confident that Selangor will continue to drive national progress while also fostering sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

“Budget 2025 addressed the empowerment of strategic industries such as logistics, halal, and aerospace; areas central to the First Selangor Plan.

“This would continue to support Selangor to achieve its growth target of 6.5 per cent to 7 per cent, which would see the state maintaining its position as the largest contributor to Malaysia’s GDP (gross domestic product),” he said in a Facebook post, following Budget 2025’s tabling by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier today.

The Gombak MP added that several infrastructure projects can boost Selangor’s security and its competitiveness on the global stage.

This includes the long-awaited Sungai Langat 2 Flood Mitigation Plan (RTB) project and expanding Port Klang with the aim of making it one of the world’s top ten shipping ports.

“The government’s efforts of increasing its support for green energy projects also align with Selangor’s vision of becoming a sustainable and resilient state.

“Thank you, Prime Minister, for your unwavering commitment to the ongoing development of Selangor and Malaysia,” said Amirudin.

First announced during the tabling of Budget 2024 on October 13 last year, the Sungai Langat 2 RTB is a part of the overall RM11.8 billion allocated for flood mitigation efforts nationwide, to safeguard residents and prevent more destruction to life and property.

On November 21, 2023, state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim announced that the state government has allocated RM650 million for the Sungai Langat 2 RTB, with the aim of resolving floods Dengkil and Labohan Dagang in Sepang.

For Port Klang's expansion, a 4.8km wharf at Westport will be built, which is expected to take 15 years to complete.

On March 6 this year, state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han said the expansion will significantly increase the port’s capacity by an additional 13 million twenty-foot equivalent units annually.

The new port is expected to generate RM55 billion for the economy and create a new free zone covering 550 acres of land.

Similarly, the Sultan Idris Shah Green Energy Plant in Gombak, first announced in November last year, began construction in June this year. The four-phase plant, capable of burning 2,400 tonnes of garbage daily, can also generate 130.5 megawatts at the same time.

Costing RM4.5 billion via private financing initiatives, it will make Selangor comparable to developed countries in more sustainable solid waste management and in terms of green energy.
