SHAH ALAM, Oct 17 — Children rescued from the charity home run by Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) in the state have undergone initial spiritual rehabilitation by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department.

State executive councillor for social welfare and women empowerment Anfaal Saari said this includes beginning Friday prayers in a secure location that has been gazetted by the Social Welfare Department.

The children's education has also been given attention by the Selangor Education Department, while the Selangor Health Department has carried out early interventions to monitor their health.

“So far, the children have responded well, particularly the younger ones, but challenges are evident among the older children who spent their formative years and adolescence under GISBH's doctrines.

“Monitoring by health and psychological experts has been conducted and will be further intensified,” she told SelangorKini.

Anfaal added that the special task force set up by Selangor to review the rehabilitation programme for the children is holding a workshop today and tomorrow to develop a comprehensive recovery module for the affected children.

The module development includes various aspects like education, mental and physical health, spirituality, legal issues, and welfare.

“Physical health aspects include growth and nutrition, while mental health involves counselling. In terms of education, the children will be reintegrated into the conventional education system.

“The spiritual aspect focuses on restoring their understanding of Islam, while legal and welfare aspects ensure the rehabilitation process is conducted smoothly following the law, and their welfare is safeguarded with high standards of care.

“This workshop aims to provide a rehabilitation or ‘exit plan’ for these GISBH children, in line with the decree of His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor (Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj),” she said.

Selangor established a task force to review the rehabilitation programme for children found at the GISBH charity home in the state.

It was set up following the decision of the Selangor State Executive Council meeting on October 2 and is chaired by Anfaal and the state executive councillor for for Islamic affairs and innovation Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah.
