SHAH ALAM, 14 Oct – A total of 153 Jom Shopping vouchers were distributed yesterday to recipients in the Sungai Air Tawar state constituency in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali celebration.
Its state assemblyman Datuk Rizam Ismail said the RM200 vouchers were handed out at the TF Supermarket in Sungai Besar from 9am onwards, aimed at easing the financial burden of the Indian community as they prepare for the festival.
“A total of 300 vouchers have been allocated for the Sungai Air Tawar state constituency and recipients are required to claim them at TF Supermarket before October 30,” he said when contacted.
Rizam also expressed hope that the state government’s initiative would bring joy and foster a sense of unity among residents celebrating the festival.
Previously, state executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication V. Papparaidu announced that 22,000 Jom Shopping vouchers, each worth RM200, would be distributed to those in need for Deepavali by the end of the month.
This year, the state administration allocated RM16.48 million for the initiative, benefiting 82,400 recipients, with the voucher value doubled from RM100 to RM200 due to current economic conditions and the people's needs.
