SHAH ALAM, Oct 10 — Selangor has announced a developer fee exemption on affordable housing projects, effective January.
State executive councillor for housing and culture Borhan Aman Shah said the exemption is set to spur affordable housing projects past the 200,000-unit target for 2027.
“Yesterday, we recommended in the meeting for the exemption of developer fees to give developers a larger space (in the market), on the condition that the exemption only be on affordable housing, Rumah Idaman and Rumah Harapan projects.
“This unconditional exemption will be enforced from January 2025. Details will be announced by the Menteri Besar in the 2025 Selangor State Budget in November,” he told the media.

Earlier, he attended the Rehda (Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia) Selangor Housing Convention at Setia City Convention Centre here today.
Also present at the annual event, now in its third edition, were state executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim and Rehda Selangor chairman Datuk Zaini Yusoff.
Zaini welcomed the state government’s suggestion to exempt real estate players from developer fees on affordable housing projects.
“Developers face difficulty turning a profit when they build affordable homes, but this fee exemption gives us some relief,” he said.
