SHAH ALAM, Oct 9 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj today decreed the state government must establish a special committee to decide how to rehabilitate the over 600 children rescued from GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) homes.
In a Facebook post today, the Selangor Royal Office said His Royal Highness also ordered a detailed report on the matter presented directly to him as soon as possible.
“His Royal Highness emphasised that this matter must be handled promptly and without delay, as it concerns the future of the children involved.
“This committee will report directly to the Sultan and will be responsible for rehabilitating the children, ensuring their reintegration into society within the specified timeframe,” the post read.
The matter was communicated by His Royal Highness to state executive councillor for Islam and innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah during an audience at Istana Bukit Kayangan here today.
Also present was Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) member Dato’ Salehuddin Saidin.
Previously, the state government formed a special task force to assist children rescued from shelters operated by GISBH.
The task force, jointly chaired by Fahmi and state executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari, aims for the children’s welfare to be ensured even after their six-month rehabilitation period is over.
The team will focus on rehabilitation methods, addressing not only issues of aqidah, but also welfare, health, and mental and physical development.
It is set to hold its first meeting on Friday.
In the initial phase, the task force will comprise representatives from the Royal Malaysia Police, the Social Welfare Department, the Selangor Education Department, the Selangor Zakat Board, the Selangor Islamic Religious Council, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department, the Yayasan Menteri Besar (Incorporated), Yayasan Selgate, and child psychology and education experts.
