SHAH ALAM, Oct 7 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari’s political secretary today refuted Selangor PAS Youth’s statement that linked flooding issues with decreased investor confidence.
Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad said the state logged RM12.4 billion in investments in the first quarter, a rise of 66.8 per cent from RM7.44 billion in the same period last year.
He said a Malaysian Investment Development Authority report revealed that the investment value opened 8,377 jobs over 363 projects, with some of them filled by those who migrated from PAS-governed states.
“A Statistics Department report showed the state’s gross domestic product rose to 25.9 per cent in 2023, an improvement from 25.5 per cent the previous year, so claims that investors are less interested in Selangor are inaccurate and naive,” Saifuddin said in a statement.
He was responding to a claim by Selangor PAS Youth chief Mohamed Sukri Omar, who said flooding in Selangor could impact inbound investments to the state.
The political secretary also said Sukri’s statement linking Selangor floods to the state’s ability to draw investment was arrogant and not smart.
He added that Amirudin is assisted by state executive councillors, departments and agencies that stand prepared for the northeast monsoon.
“Going by Sukri Omar’s logic, we now know the reason development in Kelantan has been stunted after being governed by PAS for 30 years,” Saifuddin fired back.
