SEPANG, Oct 7 — Seven agencies, represented by 120 participants, joined Selangor’s two-day Landslide Disaster Simulation Training Programme for the Preparedness of Responding Agencies 2024 at the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) base in Puchong today.

State executive councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi said every participant was put through theory and practical classes to solidify their understanding of disaster management.

Najwan added that experienced trainers from SMART guided programme participants on rescue and emergency response techniques in a landslide incident.

“This programme was held to prepare all agencies ahead of the northeast monsoon, set last from November to March.

“The Meteorological Department has forecasted four to six episodes of monsoon surges that could bring heavy rain in that period, set to last until March 2025,” he said.

Najwan explained that the programme aims to boost coordination between agencies and volunteers to ensure quick, effective responses during disasters.

He added the agencies involved are the Selangor police contingent, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, and Selangor Civil Defence Force, 11th Infantry Brigade of the Malaysian Armed Forces, Selangor Land and Mines Office, nine Land and District Offices, and 12 local authorities.
