Selangor Sultan consents to decision by fatwa council on GISBH practices

SHAH ALAM, Oct 3 — The Selangor State Fatwa Committee has concluded that the leaders, followers, workers and members of the GISB Holdings (GISBH) network have practised and are practising Aurad Muhammadiah, which was declared deviant on February 4, 1993.

The committee said the belief, held by the Al-Arqam sect, was determined to be deviant from true Islamic teachings, according to its 54th Gazette.

Thus, GISBH’s practices involve characteristics deviant from true Islamic teachings based on Ahli Sunah Waljamaah in terms of beliefs and religious law.

Meanwhile, the Selangor Royal Office in a Facebook post said Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has consented to the committee’s edict on GISBH’s teachings, beliefs, and practices.

Committee chairman and Selangor Mufti Assoc Prof Dato’ Anhar Opir presented the findings on the GISBH matter, which was decided on September 30, to the ruler for His Royal Highness’ consent, at Istana Bukit Kayangan here today.

Any variation or new practice similar to Aurad Muhammadiah is considered deviant from true Islamic teachings.

The Selangor Mufti Department will elaborate on the latest edict soon.
