SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — Selangor is monitoring the spread of teachings that contradict Islam, particularly deviant ones, to ensure they do not reemerge.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said state religious authorities constantly examine reports presented to them and will issue a fatwa declaring a movement or an organisation as deviant if it does not adhere to true Islamic teachings.
“Selangor consistently issues fatwas against beliefs and teachings that contain deviant elements. However, in the case of Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH), they operate under the guise of business activities, and their children are cared for by their followers.
“May I remind you that in 2013, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) accepted the repentance from Ummu Jah and her followers. However, certain communities still practise deviant teachings in areas like Country Homes and Masjid Cahaya Iman.
“There is a misconception that no action is being taken, but we are actively addressing the issue and closely monitoring the situation,” he said.
Ummu Jah is the wife of Abuya Asaari Muhammad, the founder of the Al-Arqam group that was declared deviant by the government in the 1990s.

Amirudin said this to reporters after officiating a seminar on fighting extremism at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque here today.
He said he is awaiting a comprehensive report from Jais on the GISBH case.
“We are in the process of obtaining the report, as it involves many individuals, and the investigation also involves the police. We are seeking a complete report because this activity has occurred twice, involving Al-Arqam and Rufaqa.
“However, this time they (GISBH) cover themselves up by hiding behind various other activities. This must be addressed as they have committed various offences, including engaging in criminal acts and spreading deviant beliefs,” he said.
Previously, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj had expressed his regret and disappointment that several GISBH premises in the state had been allowed to operate illegally for an extended period, and ordered the immediate closure of these establishments.
His Royal Highness also decreed for state religious authorities and police to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure all parties involved in the criminal offences are prosecuted.
