State to double funding for Selangor Youth Movement, appoints 250 new members

SHAH ALAM, Sept 29 — A total of 250 youths have been appointed as Selangor Youth Movement (PeBS) members for the 2024/2025 term.

The appointment certificates were presented by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari at a ceremony held at Hotel Saujana Kuala Lumpur, here last night.

The event, which was part of a retreat programme, was also attended by state executive councillor for youth Najwan Halimi and Selangor State Sports Council executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi.

In a statement, Amirudin said that PeBS members for this term would be under the structure of local authorities, unlike the previous term, where they were under the state assembly constituencies.

“With this appointment, the state government hopes PeBS will be more motivated to carry out its responsibilities of mobilising grassroots youth in their respective zones.

“The administration remains attentive and upholds the principle of ‘No one left behind’ in societal development, especially for the youth,” he said.

In his speech last night, Amirudin announced that the state administration is considering increasing the allocation for each PeBS zone to RM10,000 to support its programmes throughout the term.

He said the doubling of the current RM5,000 allocation would be finalised in the upcoming state budget, which will be tabled in November.

“We aim to improve and empower PeBS by increasing the allocation by RM5,000 for each local authority zone.

“The amount will be announced during the tabling of the state budget as we need to review the state’s financial position. We may start at RM7,000 if we can’t raise it to that amount, but we are aiming for RM10,000,” he said.

Amirudin also told PeBS members to hold beneficial programs and collaborate with the local authorities, council members, state assembly coordinators, and elected representatives.

PeBS, established in 2008 under the name Local Youth Movements (PeBT), is a leadership programme for young people serving as administrative representatives to convey and implement state policies to the youth.
