SHAH ALAM, Sept 20 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has commended the Selangor Red Giants (SRG) e-sports team for their victory in winning the Mid Season Cup Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB) Championship recently.
He extended his heartfelt congratulations for the team’s hard work, which led to a victory that brings pride not only to the team but also to Selangor, symbolising the potential of Malaysian youth on the international e-sports stage.
"The Madani government fully supports the growth of the e-sports industry, which continues to thrive, and we look forward to the emergence of more e-sports teams capable of competing fiercely and achieving global recognition," Anwar said in a Facebook post today.
He prayed that Malaysia and the Selangor Red Giants can make history once again at the MLBB M6 World Championship, which is set to take place at the Axiata Arena later this year.
Last Friday (September 13), state executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said he would accompany SRG's management and the team to meet with Anwar to discuss the industry’s future.
On September 3, the Prime Minister announced that RM15 million has been allocated to elevate the national football team, Harimau Malaya, into a football giant in Asia.
SRG's victory over the Philippines’ Falcons AP Bren Sport by 4-3 during the MLBB Championship in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on July 14 was also praised by Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.
His Highness said the ‘extraordinary’ achievement brought pride to the entire nation and placed Malaysia on the world map as a respected and formidable force in the international MLBB arena.
