Selangor on alert amid unpredictable weather

SHAH ALAM, Sept 10 — Selangor is closely monitoring unpredictable weather patterns that could cause natural disasters.

State executive councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi said the Selangor Disaster Management Unit consistently consults the Meteorological Department for the latest weather updates.

“Monitoring is done continuously due to unpredictable weather, and we are prepared for any unexpected incidents,” he told Media Selangor.

Najwan said he will engage with the Social Welfare Department (JKM) to reassess facilities at the temporary relief centres (PPS).

“We will ensure all PPS that operate during a disaster are accessible and can accommodate the elderly and disabled. The facilities, needs, accommodation and protection provided must not infringe the rights of these groups.

“We will ensure the centres, which include schools and multipurpose halls, offer adequate facilities and we will make improvements if necessary,” he said.

Previously, during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting, Najwan said 1,152 PPS have been gazetted by the state JKM ahead of potential floods.

He added that preparations for the centres were done in accordance with established guidelines.
