SHAH ALAM, Sept 3 — The state government has inked a deal with Kedah to share expertise, technology and advisory services in the development of utility infrastructure in both states.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the cooperation involves Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, agencies, the Selangor Utility Corridor (Kusel), and Utiliti Infra Darul Aman (UiDA).

Amirudin said the historic deal shows both states can move in a mature manner without using political differences as an excuse not to help the people.

“On behalf of the state government, thank you, and I welcome the cooperation between Kusel and UiDA. This proves Malaysia is moving towards mature and pragmatic collaborative efforts.

“This is the Kita Selangor principle and the prime minister’s effort. Selangor is determined to continue with this approach for the benefit of the people,” he said at the signing ceremony.

Earlier, Amirudin and Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor witnessed the signing of the Kusel-UiDA memorandum of understanding at the State Secretariat Building here today.

Representing Kusel was its managing director Khairul Azmi Misran, while UiDA was represented by its chief executive officer Ahmad Taufik Radzi. Also present was MBI chief executive officer Saipolyazan M. Yusop

Sanusi said he hopes Selangor is ready to receive Kedah’s efforts to develop utility facilities together, and progress each state’s economies.

“Kedah chose Selangor because its utilities pose challenges. It is as if we’re learning additional mathematics from Selangor, so we have to come here to see the ‘teacher’,” he said.

Selangor has over 24,000km of pipeline, while Kedah has 14,000km.
