SHAH ALAM, Sept 3 — The Sultan Alam Shah Museum in Section 14 here, which is undergoing upgrading works, is set to be reopened in November.

State executive councillor for housing and culture Borhan Aman Shah said the museum will introduce a new concept incorporating the latest technology, including the use of QR codes to access information.

“We have introduced several innovations to attract young people to visit the museum, such as allowing them to simply scan QR codes for information. We have also created photo spots and child-friendly zones to make the museum more appealing.

“Additionally, there is a new section that showcases 42 traditional Malay headgear (tanjak) from various states, as well as collections on Malay, Chinese, and Indian wedding customs,” he told Media Selangor.

The museum has been closed since 2019 to upgrade its galleries, namely the History Gallery, Custom and Culture Gallery, as well as Nature Gallery.

Separately, Borhan said the state government plans to engage with its Perak counterpart as part of its bid to recognise dredgers as a national treasure.

“Selangor has the Sri Banting dredger in Dengkil, Sepang, while Perak has one in Kampung Tualang, Batu Gajah. We intend to work together with Perak to elevate this heritage to the international level.

“For that, we will pay a visit to Perak in the near future to discuss the matter,” he said.

The Sri Banting Tin Dredge and Tanjung Tualang Dredge No. 5 are the two remaining dredgers in Malaysia.

The vessel in Dengkil is one of the largest and most modern in Southeast Asia.

Measuring 86m in length and 22 to 29.3m in width, the dredger is powered by electricity and capable of drilling up to 30m underground.

It also stands as a symbol of the revolutionary progress of the tin mining industry in Selangor once upon a time.
