Govt to upgrade Sepang Orang Asli village infrastructure

SEPANG, Aug 27 — The government will repair infrastructure and build a National Information Dissemination Centre (Nadi) in Kampung Orang Asli Kelinsing here at a cost of RM5 million, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He said RM2.5 million is for infrastructure upgrades, which will include the reconstruction of a cultural hall, canteen, public toilets, and the creation of new business spaces within the cultural complex, while the remainder will be used to build Nadi.

He said the project, which began August 15, is progressing smoothly, and the Communications Ministry will hold a visit in December to assess its progress.

“Under the Kampung Angkat Madani Programme, the government will focus on improving infrastructure, including internet access in rural areas.

“At Nadi, we will provide 10 laptops with free Internet access at a speed of 100Mbps. Additionally, the MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) will educate villagers on internet safety to prevent them falling victim to online scams and other risks,” he said at a press conference after the Temu Mesra Masyarakat programme of Kampung Orang Asli Kelingsing today.

To help promote the handicraft products of the Orang Asli community in the village, Fahmi hopes their creations will not only be marketed in the business spaces expected to be completed by the end of this year but also be used as souvenirs for foreign delegates attending Asean Summit 2025 in the capital.

“We want the handicrafts from this village to be used as souvenirs for delegates who come from afar to our country. I have asked the Communications Ministry secretary-general (Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa) to consider this,” he said.

Malaysia will host Asean Summit 2025, which will involve all states and not just be centralised in Kuala Lumpur.
