SHAH ALAM, Aug 23 — A total of 4,417 working mothers have received the MamaKerja incentive of RM1,000 to help alleviate childcare costs as of this August, according to the state executive councillor for women empowerment Anfaal Saari.
She said her office has received over 7,000 applications this year alone, although some had to be rejected for not meeting the required criteria.
"We received a lot of applications, but approximately 3,000 were rejected because they did not fulfil the main conditions.
"Since its launch last year, a total of 15,194 applications have been processed. However, we thoroughly review all aspects before granting approval," she said when contacted.
The MamaKerja initiative, which began on November 1 last year, is part of the state government’s manifesto offered to the people of Selangor during the state election last August.
With an allocation of RM5 million, the scheme aims to benefit 5,000 working women who have at least three children under the age of 12 and with a household income not exceeding RM8,000.
The eligibility criteria are as follows:
- Employed women
- Selangor residents (born in Selangor or residing in Selangor for over 10 years)
- Voters in Selangor
- Household income of RM8,000 or below
- Individuals with an Inland Revenue Board (IRB) account or Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributions
- Not recipients of Asuh Pintar, Bantuan Kehidupan Sejahtera Selangor (Bingkas) or Tunas assistance
