SHAH ALAM, Aug 22 — The previously-abandoned Bernam River Airfield in Hulu Selangor will be revitalised as a vibrant hub for multi-discipline sports aviation, announced state executive councillor for trade, investment, and mobility Ng Sze Han.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to rejuvenate the airstrip and its surroundings, breathing new life into the northern Selangor skies.

In addition, the planned aviation activities are expected to attract talent and further solidify the state’s position as the premier destination for aerospace investments.

“Selangor is home to approximately 67 per cent  of Malaysia's aerospace companies and we are dedicated to providing high-skilled jobs for Selangorians.

“The revival of the Bernam River Airfield presents a unique opportunity to inspire and cultivate the next generation of aviation and aerospace professionals.

“Aside from that, there are plans to introduce multi-discipline sports aviation here. This will help grow our talent pool and keep Selangor as the best choice for aerospace investments,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday (August 19).

Bernam River Airfield is the first private airstrip in the country built to provide infrastructure for aviation in Malaysia, spanning 221 acres.

Previously, Ng said the Selangor government remains committed to advancing the state’s role as a regional hub for commercial aviation, manufacturing, as well as maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO).

These initiatives are anchored by the state’s premier commercial aviation event, the Selangor Aviation Show, which has been held for several years at the Skypark Regional Aviation Centre (RAC) in Bukit Jelutong.

This year’s event, which is the fourth edition, will be held from September 12 to September 14.

The state has targeted RM1.3 billion in potential transaction value for the airshow next month, compared to RM823 million last year. It also aims to attract 25,000 visitors, a substantial increase from the 19,000 attendees in 2023.
