SUBANG JAYA, July 23 — Newly-minted Subang Jaya Mayor Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim has vowed to maintain the city council’s performance and improve public services in line with the new proposed tax assessment rate beginning next year.

His pledge comes after the swearing-in and signing of his appointment letter today. He succeeds Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim, who is now the Shah Alam Mayor.

The ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali, deputy secretary Ismail Salim, Serdang state assemblyman Abbas Salimmi Azmi, Subang Jaya police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, Serdang police chief ACP A.A. Anbalagan, department directors, and council members.

Amirul, 47, the fourth Subang Jaya mayor, previously served as the Kuala Langat Municipal Council’s president. He has 22 years of experience in various government departments.

In his speech, he revealed his plans to introduce a special myWhatsApp system for Subang Jaya’s residents, allowing them to submit complaints directly to the relevant departments, among other things.

"We plan to provide smartphones to 21 Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) departments, ensuring that someone is responsible for addressing all complaints, suggestions or feedback from residents via WhatsApp.

“This system, unlike the Public Complaints Management System (SisPAA), enables residents to directly contact the relevant departments, which I believe will be faster and more efficient,” Amirul said.

He also expressed appreciation for the legacy of past MBSJ mayors' leadership, which succeeded in setting a high benchmark for the city’s urban management.

"InsyaAllah, I will be responsible for ensuring that MBSJ continues to excel, shine and remain competitive.

"With new hopes and aspirations, we gather our ideas and energy to restore confidence among stakeholders and the community in the Subang Jaya area," Amirul said.

Amirul, a native of Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, received his secondary education at the Victoria Institution, Kuala Lumpur.

He pursued higher education by obtaining a Master of Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and a Bachelor of Science from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, the United States.

Amirul also served in the Defence Ministry, the Home Affairs Ministry, the Malaysian Treasury, the Selangor Treasury, and the Gombak District and Land Office, among others.
