SHAH ALAM, July 10 — The development of the Shah Alam Sports Complex under the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) will highlight the sports industry with its fresh look.
Seri Serdang assemblyman Abbas Salimi Azmi said the new structure, to be completed by 2029, will unite the people and boost their quality of life through sports.
“RS-1 will bring forth a new image for Selangor. When it is completed, Seri Serdang believes this stadium will benefit the people and make Selangor’s image as a sports-active state more prominent.
“The Selangor people will definitely be proud of the new stadium. Sports is a unifying medium that will improve the people’s quality of life,” said Abbas while debating the RS-1 mid-term review at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting yesterday.

On the realisation of the sports complex, he said he trusts that the process has been refined and is by the book.
“When it is completed, it will be a landmark and represent a better image (for Selangor.”
The demolition of the Shah Alam Stadium began on July 1 with conventional, non-explosive methods to prevent noise, air and water pollution for nearby residents. The process is expected to last a year.
Previously, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI) said the new sports complex, to be constructed in three phases, will be completed in 2029.
MBI special projects unit general manager Datuk Ruslan Abdul Aziz said the first phase involves the demolition and reconstruction of the sports complex, which is set for completion by December 2026.
The second phase is scheduled to begin in January 2027, involving an indoor theatre, sports and youth wing, and recreational areas.
The final phase, for the construction of an integrated terminal and hotel, is expected to start between January 2028 and December 2029.
