SHAH ALAM, June 26 — Sungai Air Tawar assemblyman Datuk Rizam Ismail has pledged half his salary to help Selangor FC pay the RM100,000 fine imposed by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) for not participating in last month’s Charity Shield match.
The state executive councillor for rural development and unity said his decision was made in solidarity with the club, which also had three points deducted in the Malaysia Super League and ordered to compensate the MFL and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) for losses sustained as the host of the season opener.
“This is not a political gimmick, but a manifestation of support from the Selangor people for the Red Giants: our pride.
“In good times and bad, we remain loyal,” he said in a statement earlier today.
Rizam expressed hope that fans will continue supporting Selangor FC so players remain resilient amid these challenges.
“May the Red Giants remain a formidable force in Malaysian football,” he said.
Yesterday, the MFL penalised Selangor FC for not playing their Charity Shield match against JDT, a decision the club made to ensure players’ safety after an acid attack on star winger Faisal Halim.
The result saw JDT given a walkover with a score of 3-0. The three-point deduction for Selangor FC saw the club, currently second in the Super League with nine points, fall to fifth place.
Immediately after the MFL’s announcement, Lembah Jaya assemblyman Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad, popularly known as Altimet, offered to donate half his royalties this year to Selangor FC.
Kota Damansara assemblyman Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim also pledged half his salary next month to help the club.
