SHAH ALAM, June 21 – Six Universiti Malaya students have clinched the top prize in Air Selangor's inaugural Data and Digital Hackathon 2024 for their innovative idea in monitoring and predicting leakages in the firm’s pipe distribution system.

The team, dubbed Fresh Air, defeated nine other finalists to be crowned winner, thanks to its development of the HydroRise Sentinel System.

In a Facebook post, the state water agency said the Data and Digital Hackathon event serves as a platform to share insights and solve complex datasets using data science tools, contributing to the advancement of the water services industry's digitalisation.

"It is aimed at empowering the lives of our 9.3 million consumers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya by promoting innovation, collaboration, and impactful solutions,” it said yesterday.

Air Selangor said the first-of-its-kind event among water services providers in Malaysia received 149 registrations, with the final 10 teams competing in a pitching session in Petaling Jaya recently.

The Fresh Air team takes home a RM10,000 winning prize.

The second and third place winners, Air Force and The HackSmith, take home RM5,000 and RM3,000 respectively.

Air Selangor also congratulated the winners and participants for their perspectives, ideas and feedback on improving water operational services.

These contributions offered valuable insights that have triggered and shaped the state water operator’s journey towards more consumer-centric solutions and services, it said.
