UPM to hold Food Security Carnival tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 — Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) will hold a Food Security Carnival, at its Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Arts and Cultural Centre's (PKKSSAAS) main hall tomorrow (June 7).

The one-day event, running from 8.30am to 5pm, is one of the university's efforts to realise the country's agriculture and food security agenda, in line with the country's aspirations to address this issue.

The Food Security Blueprint, which serves as a reference document for stakeholders in helping with food security issues through academic programmes, research and innovation, and development services, will be launched during the carnival.

Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir are scheduled to launch the document.

“This carnival targets the local community, institutions of higher learning, schools, agencies and other stakeholders in the Klang Valley, as well as all UPM staff and students, for their respective roles in providing food security solutions to the country,” UPM said in a statement.

“Other programmes include the ‘Pertanian Untuk Rakyat (Putra): Inklusiviti UPM Menyubur Pertanian dan Keterjaminan Makanan’ Forum; urban agriculture demonstrations; exhibitions focusing on crops, animal husbandry and the latest technology; as well as the sale of agricultural products,” it added.

The Food Security Carnival is also a special continuation of the Putra rebranding initiative, which was launched by UPM's Chancellor, the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, on May 16 at Istana Alam Shah, Klang.
