Selangor launches 1000 Digital initiative to empower young entrepreneurs through digitalisation

By Yasmin Ramlan

SHAH ALAM, May 30 — The state government launched the Selangor 1000 Digital initiative today to empower young entrepreneurs with knowledge and insights into using digitalisation to enhance business growth and ensure financial success.

State executive councillor for youth and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said one of the targeted segments is entrepreneurs from the creative industries, who may have been previously overlooked due to the focus on programmes catered for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“We want to help entrepreneurs in the creative industry, in line with the Menteri Besar’s (Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari) call for a greater focus on developing entrepreneurs in the creative economy.

“Previously, we have had various programmes for SME entrepreneurs, but now we want to focus more on those involved in the creative economy in Selangor.

“This is because SME entrepreneurs have mostly been able to establish themselves through the various programmes offered by the state government previously,” he told the press after launching the first series of the Selangor 1000 Digital at the Shah Alam City Council Convention Centre today.

The event today is the first of a five-part series that will be held in five different districts across the state — namely Petaling, Sabak Bernam, Sepang, Hulu Langat, and Gombak — from today until September.

Shah Alam has been selected to host the programme for the Petaling district.

Najwan said that upon completing this initial phase, the initiative will be held in the remaining four districts in Selangor at a future date.

Selangor 1000 Digital aims to provide essential training and support to 500 e-commerce entrepreneurs and 500 live-streaming hosts throughout Selangor.

Under the theme 'Jom Digital, Pintar Bersama', the programme introduces comprehensive digital solutions to enhance business operations.

This includes O2O (offline to online) and OMO (online merge offline) business concepts, digital marketing strategies, and live streaming techniques.

The programme is jointly organised by the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec), Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), the State Economic Planning Unit (Upen) and Platform Selangor (PLATS).
