SHAH ALAM, May 26 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is assessing high-risk trees along protocol roads in City Centre 52 and Jalan Selangor.

Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung said this comes after his suggestion last week to have an arborist inspect all the old trees in the area.

"Early inspection is critical to ensure the safety of lives and property before it is too late," he said in a Facebook post today.

Yesterday, Lee inspected the roof of Flat Taman Perangsang, which was blown off by a storm, together with Taman Medan state constituency coordinator Halimey Abu Bakar and MBPJ councillor Nora Mansor.

On May 13, he urged the council to appoint certified arborists to thoroughly inspect old and high-risk trees that are likely to collapse.

He added that the appointed arborists must conduct inspections, especially in densely populated areas and along main roads, urgently.

On 7 May, a tree fell on a vehicle in front of the Shangri-La Hotel along Jalan Sultan Ismail in Kuala Lumpur due to a storm, causing the death of one man and injuring another.
