HULU SELANGOR, May 2 — The Unity Government machinery’s participation in the Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) by-election campaign was clear proof of the bloc’s integrity, Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said.
He said it disproved allegations that relations within the Unity Government were fractured, as the coalition has come together to ensure its candidate Pang Sock Tao’s victory.
He told reporters this after attending the Labour Day Unity event in Rasa, Batang Kali, last night. Also in attendance were DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng and MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.
Zambry, who is also Higher Education Minister, was confident the KKB Indian community would not be swayed by certain quarters urging them not to vote in the by-election.
Lim, who is former Penang Chief Minister, advised voters to choose a candidate who aligns with the aspirations of the state and federal governments.
“Do not, in frustration, jeopardise your future, voters. Have faith in our candidate. Although they say she (Pang) has no experience, do not worry, as we have a list of experienced leaders in the party and the Unity Government who are ready to assist,” he said.
The KKB by-election will see Pang, who is former press secretary to the Housing and Local Government Minister, being challenged by Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainuddin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Nyau Ke Xin (Independent).
The by-election was called after the death of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21 after a battle with cancer.
Early voting is on May 7 while polling is on May 11.
