SHAH ALAM, March 17 — The state government is fostering strong cooperation with government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to develop child development policies.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said doing so will provide a platform for affected individuals to report any incidents, including abuse and physical, sexual, or emotional harassment.

"This issue has a significant impact on future generations. Therefore, collaboration with various stakeholders is necessary to ensure future generations can better guide and lead the nation," he said.

Amirudin was speaking at the Convention on the Protection of Pupils from Sexual Exploitation at Dewan Jubli Perak in the State Secretariat Building yesterday, which was officiated by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reforms) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

He added that he hopes the convention can be expanded to grassroots communities to raise awareness about the dangers of sexual exploitation for future generations.

"Based on experience, this shameful issue is also related to economic factors, lifestyle, and religious understanding. What is even more worrying is that it involves certain religious figures or personalities.

"So, it cannot be left unchecked. Awareness of this issue needs to be addressed by all parties, not just by families or schools alone," Amirudin said.
