State sets up special committee to fix strata ownership problem

SHAH ALAM, March 5 — The state government has set up a special committee to resolve a long-standing problem relating to the issuance of strata titles for housing and real estate.

State executive councillor for housing Borhan Aman Shah said the committee is tasked with, among other things, planning strategies to address the issue of home and property owners who have yet to obtain their strata ownership rights.

“Referring to the Selangor Housing and Property Board’s records, there are apartments that still do not have strata titles despite being occupied for a long time.

“This will affect strata owners’ ability to conduct any transactions involving their respective parcels.

“In view of this, the state government has established a special committee assigned with addressing this issue,” he said in the State Legislative Assembly yesterday.

Borhan said this in his winding up speech on the royal address by Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj when opening of the First Meeting of the Second Session of the 15th State Legislative Assembly last Tuesday.

Previously, when tabling the 2024 Selangor Budget in November last year, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari revealed that Selangor is the state with the highest number of property ownership.

According to him, there are an estimated 1.5 million land titles and 800,000 strata titles statewide presently.
