SHAH ALAM, Feb 29 — The state government is deliberating on providing incentives to interested parties to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, aligning with the national effort to promote the adoption of EVs.

State executive councillor for environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the nature and structure of these incentives will be determined based on a pioneer project spearheaded by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA).

The project aims to develop comprehensive guidelines for installing charging stations across Selangor.

"It seeks to conduct studies through focus groups to identify the challenges associated with installing EV charging stations. These guidelines are intended for implementation by local authorities as well as areas under the purview of the state government.

"The project is crucial as we evaluate the complexities of installing these stations, particularly in strata properties.

"Only upon the conclusion of this project will we devise potential incentives,” she said at the State Legislative Assembly sitting today.

Jamaliah was responding to a supplementary question by Taman Medan state assemblyman Afif Bahardin on the state government's plans to facilitate the installation of EV charging stations to support the growing use of EVs nationwide.

Similarly, the councillor said the Selangor government is considering adopting the use of EV vehicles as part of its official fleet of cars.

However, this will depend on the cost involved, among several other factors.

She said to date, there are 681 EV charging stations across the state, with Selangor aiming to install at least 1,000 stations by 2025.
