SHAH ALAM, Jan 27 — Residents in Banting and its surrounding areas can expect to enjoy better healthcare services soon, thanks to a proposed RM359 million upgrade to the aged Banting Hospital.

State executive councillor and Banting assemblyman V. Papparaidu said discussions with the relevant stakeholders to ensure the smooth implementation of the project are currently underway.

"Yes, we are presently holding discussions from time to time with all the interested parties. We want to ensure the project runs smoothly, considering its importance to the public.

"Residents here have been yearning for a new hospital, as the existing one is no longer capable of accommodating the increasing number of patients," he told Selangorkini.

Banting Hospital began operations in 1974 on a 10 hectare land. It only had 151 beds to cater to over 300,000 Kuala Langat residents during its launch.

In 2019, the government approved funding for the upgrading of the endoscopy room in the operating theatre, intensive care unit (ICU), and staff quarters, as well as replacement of the roof in the Anesthesiology Department.

Last June, Banting Hospital announced in a Facebook post that the preliminary upgrade work had commenced, involving the preparation of site surveys, soil testing, and utility mapping.

"Discussions were also held to minimise risks throughout the upgrading work, to ensure the highest level of healthcare services to patients."
