SHAH ALAM, Jan 22 — Selangor state executive councillors convened for a four-day retreat in Sabah starting yesterday to assess the progress of the state’s ambitious First Selangor Plan (RS-1), among several key discussions.

This is according to state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Najwan Halimi, who said the gathering would also emphasise on enhancing the efficiency of each state government portfolio.

"I am currently attending a four-day retreat of the state's leadership council, which commenced yesterday in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah,” he said in a post on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, today.

“The retreat’s primary goals include a thorough review and examination of RS-1’s (proposed) mid-term review.

“It also aims to streamline and improve administrative operations of the various portfolios held by the state executive council members.”

Najwan said the programme was also attended by senior officers from the Selangor State Secretary's office, district officers, mayors and local council presidents, and the heads of the respective state departments, agencies and government-linked companies.

This is the first retreat since the formation of the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional state government following the conclusion of the Selangor election last August.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and the 10 members of his state leadership lineup took their oath of office at Balairung Seri, Istana Alam Shah in Klang on August 21.

Seven of the 10 are new faces, namely Najwan, Dr Fahmi Ngah, Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, Jamaliah Jamaluddin, V. Papparaidu, Anfaal Saari and Datuk Rizam Ismail. The three retained are Ng Sze Han, Izham Hashim and Borhan Aman Shah.

This is Amirudin’s second term as Menteri Besar, having assumed power in June 2018, succeeding Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

RS-1 was first tabled in July 2022, detailing the state’s ambitious plan to create high impact jobs, establish special economic zones and diversify its revenue stream, among other things.

Amirudin had, during the tabling of the document, said the state government is committed to contributing 30 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product by 2025, while creating a ‘golden balance’ between economic growth and raising the standard of living for its people.

In November last year, when winding up the 2024 Selangor Budget debate, the Menteri Besar confirmed that the state would conduct a mid-term review of the RS-1 this year to ensure its successful implementation.
