SHAH ALAM, Jan 19 — Newly-appointed Shah Alam mayor Cheremi Tarman has wasted no time upon assuming office by voicing plans for the city’s improvement.

This includes the rejuvenation of the city centre and implementing people-centric projects.

Speaking at his swearing-in ceremony, he said his objective is to see the landscape enhancement in the state capital, including beautifying roundabouts across the city.

Cheremi also announced plans to establish pocket parks in selected locations, develop more public parks, including in the city centre and near the state’s Raja Tun Uda Library, and upgrade existing recreational parks.

"This is also in conjunction with celebrating the city’s 25th silver jubilee next year. Hence, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has planned and prepared to implement various projects this year,” he said at Wisma MBSA today.

Elaborating on the city council’s plan during a press conference later, Cheremi said MBSA is set to launch a linear park, with the first phase to commence in the middle of this year with an estimated cost of between RM4 million and RM5 million.

“Planning was made last year, but the first phase will start in June or July, ahead of the city’s 25th anniversary,” he told the press.

The park, which will include a jogging track and facilities for recreational activities, will be developed at the Section 15 industrial area.

Separately, Cheremi said his vision is to provide the best possible service to Shah Alam’s residents, particularly in addressing their complaints.

"We observed that most of their grouses revolve around the issues of infrastructure, landscaping, and road condition," he said.

Meanwhile, each MBSA councillor will be given a RM100,000 chest fund to conduct social activities like community works, sporting events, and health campaigns this year.

This also includes a RM10,000 allocation to organise programmes in conjunction with the Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, and Christmas festivals.

“I hope every councillor adheres to the financial procedures accordingly. Expenditure for any events, payment receipts, list of purchases, and other related items must be documented,” he said.
