SHAH ALAM, Dec 13 –The Selangor E-Commerce Xccelerator Programme 2023’s (ECX23) recent business trip to Hangzhou, China, underscored the state’s commitment to propelling Malaysian startups towards global recognition and success.
Its organiser, Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec), said this in a statement following its strategic trip to the capital of the Zhejiang province.
“This initiative not only reflects Selangor’s dedication to nurturing local businesses but also positions the ECX23 programme as a trailblazer in catalysing global success for Malaysian enterprises,” it said.
The five companies from the ECX23 programme that were chosen to participate in the trip were Pastels Group Sdn Bhd, Shapee Trading & Distribution (M) Sdn Bhd, Sonobee Ultrasound Sdn Bhd, Nori Malaysia Sdn Bhd, and Big Bath Sdn Bhd.
Sidec chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping said the week-long mission from December 3 to 9 facilitated business matching sessions, linking the selected Malaysian enterprises with key players in the Chinese e-commerce landscape.
The participants were given the opportunity to immerse themselves in Hangzhou’s dynamic culture of innovation and interact with leading Chinese entrepreneurs and business magnates, gaining valuable insights and strategies for scaling their businesses globally.
“This mission was a golden opportunity for these premier Malaysian companies to gain exposure to international e-commerce best practices, scaling techniques and insights into evolving into globally recognised brands.
“They also experienced a deep dive into Hangzhou’s innovative culture and networked with prominent entrepreneurs and business leaders,” he said.
The chosen location for the business trip, often dubbed the ‘Silicon Valley of China’, is a renowned hub for e-commerce and is home to 57 Fortune Global 500 companies, including Alibaba.
According to Sidec, among the highlights of the trip were visits to various innovation and technology hubs such as the China Artificial Intelligence Town, Dream Town Hangzhou, Hangzhou Future Sci-Tech City Planning Exhibition Hall, Alibaba Museum, Freshippo, SUNON Furniture, VTO Livestream (Mosquito Club), Yowant Network, Hangzhou Intellectual Property Incubation Park, and Shenhow Technologies.
The trip exposed participants to cutting-edge practices in e-commerce, big data, cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), chip design, and artificial intelligence, allowing them to witness over 1,000 innovation projects firsthand, it added.
